Me Time

Taking time for yourself is so important. It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and forget to take a moment to breath. Do something that makes you happy or do something for yourself at least once a week.

Organization.

Organization is my strongest skill. This served me very well with having five separate classes. I kept a folder for each class to keep me organized throughout units and then had the worksheets for that day in separate folders to keep my transition between classes easier.

Coffee is my life

I can't even begin to tell you how much coffee means to me! Hot beverages bring so much comfort to me. In my classroom I had an electric kettle which I and students would use to drink tea. Sometimes students would have their own tea/drink powder, and sometimes I would provide them some of my tea. This was something I included in my original classroom vision years ago and it is still important to me even though it requires money out of my own pocket.

Parent Teacher Confrences

My interactions with parents were limited to parent teacher conferences and overhearing phone calls to home. Many of the parents in the community are not very involved in their student's academics either because of a lack of time, motivation, or knowledge.

Exercise

I found that taking care of my physical health directly correlated with my mental health. As a teacher you can come home mentally excited. By doing some physical exercise wether thats walking my dog, stretching, or going for a run really boosted my spirits again.

"There's always a brighter side"

"There's always a brighter side" was my senior quote from high school and it remains my senior quote now in college. It reminds me that in every dark day, there is a bright side. This helps me stay positive through struggles in life.

Grading

After student teaching I fully understand why teachers do not give feedback and grades back very quickly. As I gained more classes I found myself spending night grading papers that never seemed to end.

Printing

I swear I spent hours doing printing. I wanted to make sure students had physical copies if available. I would start and end every morning printing off worksheets for the day.

Lesson Plans

I spent so much time making my own lessons and exploring teacherspayteachers to find free lessons or to find some inspiration. This was probably one of the funest parts of being a teacher. I LOVED spending my Sundays being creative and making lesson plans.
